The V-Beam Prima (Syneron-Candela), a new, long-pulse, higher‐energy, 595nm pulse dye laser with dynamic spray cooling and a 15mm diameter circular treatment beam, is effective for rosacea-related redness. And the larger beam size improves both outcomes and patient safety, according to a study Eric F. Bernstein, MD, et al, published on April 10, 2018, in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine. The researchers enrolled 20 subjects with erythemato‐telangiectatic rosacea. Nineteen completed the study, which included four monthly treatments and evaluation by blinded reviewers two months following the final treatment. The evaluators correctly identified baseline and follow‐up images …Read more »

RF Vs. PDL For Rosacea
A recent study published in Dermatologic Surgery (February 2017) evaluated the efficacy of radiofrequency (RF) in the treatment of rosacea compared with pulsed dye laser (PDL). For the randomized, controlled, split-face study, researchers Sue-Jeong Kim, MD, et al, enrolled 30 patients with rosacea: 20 with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (ETR) and 10 with papulopustular rosacea (PPR). The subjects received three treatment sessions at four-week intervals, with follow-up continuing until four weeks after the last treatment. Efficacy was assessed by rosacea severity score, erythema index, lesion counts, physician’s subjective evaluation and patient satisfaction. RF and PDL resulted in significant improvement in severity scores …Read more »
